humane research australia (HRA) presents
The code: limitations and the need for review

About

In Australia, the use of animals in research and science is regulated by a Code of Practice. The current edition of the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (the Code) was issued on 21 June 2013.

Rachel Smith, CEO of Humane Research Australia (HRA) will provide a critique of the Code, challenging the application of its guiding principles and analysing legal enforceability. A case will be presented for urgent Review of the Code and a summary of some of HRA’s key recommendations for reform.
