Summary of the Australian Alliance for Animals

The Australian Alliance for Animals is a national charity leading a strategic alliance of Australia’s key animal protection organisations to create systemic change for animals. The Alliance’s core members include Australia’s leading animal protection organisations with a combined supporter base of over 2 million people: Animals Australia, Compassion in world farming, FOUR PAWS Australia, Humane Society International Australia, Voiceless and World Animal Protection Australia.

The #FairGoForAnimals campaign by the Australian Alliance for Animals proposes a ground-breaking new framework for creating a more balanced and independent animal welfare governance system in Australia. The Alliance is calling for six crucial reforms:
      1. Create ministerial recognition of animal welfare
      2. Establish a National Animal Welfare Commission
      3. Establish state/territory Animal Welfare Authorities
      4. Introduce decision-making principles & sentience recognition
      5. Create fair and accountable animal welfare standards processes
      6. Devote adequate funding to animal welfare services.
